The Paradox of Choice: carpet

I'm reading the book The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz [excerpt], which is proving timely with respect to my home remodeling. The book is about how, while a certain amount of choice is good, too much choice can decrease happiness by increasing the amount of work it takes to make a decision and the associated buyer's remorse.

While we decided at the start to stick with wool berber, I've been spinning my wheels on:

  • What pattern should we get?
  • Should we get New Zealand wool or less expensive European wool?
  • Should we get chemical-free carpet (e.g., Earth Weave Bio-Floor)? If so, which licensing should we use (e.g., Green Label Plus?
  • Should we get biodegradable carpet and padding, or is it less likely to hold up?
  • and so on...
